Camino day 7. Estella to Los Arcos 19 km. have now walked 133 km with still lots to go. Just arrived at Los Arcos. Left late about 8am after bacon and eggs for breakfast at Albergue Capuchinos the rooms here are great, recently renovated and we had a 3 person room with our own ensuite bathroom and toilet.
Sharing with walking companions Becki and Stephanie although keep loosing Stephanie.
Made it to Los Arcos by 12:45. Showered, washing done writing this while enjoying a cold cheveza in the plaza de santa maria next to the church. Still 35 degrees!
Easier walk today only one hill of significance after Estella.
Stopped at the free Bodegas Irachie wine fountain just after leaving Estella. The wine was ok but too early in the morning!
The Camino tour groups tend to get in the way at times though. They don’t usually walk to far before they are back on a bus usually they seem to walk into the next town have coffee get the stamp for there Compostela walk out of town and on back the bus.
Intended to do the alternative cooler forest route but missed the point where the tracks diverge. Not obviously marked. (Will do it on the next Camino) So found ourselves on the no shade route!
I did a lot of training in Darwin and lived there for 26 years. That training has payed dividends over the last few days. Once the afternoon heat sets in those from cooler climates fade and seem to be just dragging themselves along. Most pilgrims expecting a cooler Camino are now starting by 5am. So I get to sleep in and have a nice quiet breakfast.
Heard some music wafting on the wind and soon after came across a couple playing a violin under a tree by the track. So took a break Stopped for a while and enjoyed the music. Just the boost we needed. Now walking in socks and sandals. much more comfortable.
There was also a makeshift cafe in the middle of nowhere, another welcome break and a cuppa!
In a 13 person dorm tonight at Alburgue Fuente Casa de Austria. It is ok but a bit crowded though.
Have booked ahead in Viana about 18k. Lograno is 27k but I don’t need to push it that hard.
