| Holstentor Gate Lubeck |
This afternoon we drove 70k or so from Hamburg to Lubeck along the Autobahn.
We found a empty parking lot at a huge shopping centre that allowed motorhomes. Everything is closed today for a long weekend holiday. As it was only 5pm and there was virtually no traffic (it was like traffic on Christmas day at home) we drove into the city centre. This turned out to be a great decision as we found another motorhome park only 300 metres away from the entrance to the Lubeck’s old town!
Much of the old town has kept a medievil look with old buildings and narrow streets. The town once could only be entered by passing one of four town gates, of which two remain today, the well-known Holstentor (1478) and the Burgtor (1444).

The two pointed cylindrical towers of Lubeck Holstentor (gate) greet you on arrival. If they look crooked in the photo that is because they are! They lean toward each other across the stepped gable that joins them together. This 12th century city area is on the Unesco World Heritage list.
Lubeck’s Old town is on an island and ringed by the canalised Trave River and forms a moat around the town. Lübeck is now the largest German port on the Baltic Sea

Walking through the side streets we came across a doll and puppet museum.(puppets in the Windows).
The weather has been great and just as warm as Darwin today at around 27C Clear skies and sunny. listening to ABC Radio Darwin over the internet. Apparently Darwin is having near record cool weather and the German Tourists are complaining it is to cold in Darwin. They should be here!!

The JG Niederegger is Lubeck’s centre for Chocolate coated marzipan the local speciality, unfortunately not allowed in Trish’s diet 🙁
We returned to the Hymermobile around 9pm. However as the sun was still up we decided to take another late evening stroll along the canal next to where we were parked and look at the old boats.
