After spending a restless night in our motor home parked on the side of Sicey Street in Sheffield, outside the motorcycle dealer, It was a busy suburban street, with buses running till late in the night. We awoke to Steven’s phone alarm at 6am. The motor mechanic arrived first at the dealership and we did wonder what his thoughts were when he saw us parked there.
The garage opened at 8am and after driving in, On closer inspection it became obvious that the bike rack drawbar was a shell on the outside and rusted through on the inside. It could have been repaired but the only engineering shop available would not even look at it for another 5 days. This was to long to wait for us. It was then also obvious we could no longer keep the scooter. The price was agreed upon for the return with a 100 pound loss to us. While there, Steve was able to make good use of the facilities and borrowed some tools to complete the Gaslow LPG (click to find out what this is) gas tank modification. Steven also repaired the bike rack so it could be retraced back into the body and we could be on our way.
Our ferry crossing from Dover to Dunkirk is booked for Monday Morning so we decided to head down the A1 toward Dover. Calling in at Brownhills at Newark for a couple of hours as Steven wanted to install a changeover valve for the gas system and needed more parts. The work was completed in their car park and our LPG system is now much more sophisticated. (hope it works when we fill it up at the garage!!)
The A1 would take us past Letchworth where Steven spent his childhood and where his family lived before they immigrated to Australia in 1968. We decided to stop somewhere near Letchworth and after a few phone calls we were booked into St Neots Caravan and Camping Site for the night. This was on the banks of the river Ouse at the spot where Stevens Dad used to take him Fishing.
St Neots is the largest town in Cambridgeshire, and since 1113 when the Priory of St Neots came into being has been an important bridge-head over the River Great Ouse.

We filled the LPG tank with no explosions or leaks and were greeted at St Neots with a good level pitch near the river. We were soon off on an evening walk along the banks of the River Ouse watching boats go through the lock, trout near the banks followed a visit to the Old Mill pub before we called it a night.
