The Turks and Caicos Islands is a country of 8 major islands and numerous uninhabited cays located 575 miles south of Miami. Grand Turk is a treeless, brush covered dot of an isle just 10.5 Km long and 2.4 Km wide (there are trees now because some have been planted!). It is dominated in the middle by several salinas (salt lakes). Salt Cay was the centre of the Bermudan salt industry from 1600 to 1960 when the salt industry stopped and tools were dropped where they were being used. There are many abandoned salinas and ruined windmills on Grand Turk.

The ship pulls into a pier located right on the beach where there is a cruise ship resort of sorts with swimming pools, flow rider pool and lots of activities at Margarita land (along with lots of margaritas). We also located a geocache that took us past a apollo splash down exhibit. Grand Turk is near where the first moon landing apolo crew splashed down.

We spent the morning simply relaxing on the beach and Steven wrote the last blog from the beach chair next to the One Love Café (free internet access). There not have been many opportunities to Skype friends and family using the internet on this trip unfortunately the time difference is difficult to manage withthe opportunitiespresentingthemselves between 2 and 5am at home. Very inconvenient!!
A day at sea tomorrow then back in Miami on the 9 Apr. We will be renting a car for the 5-6 hour drive to Tampa with an overnight stop in Lake Wales.
