Hartz Mountains

We left Quedlinburg about 5pm for a scenic drive through the Hartz Mountains on100_8383 our way to Hameln.

Great idea however mountains being mountains they attract the clouds and the scenery consisted of  misty pine forests. Not to be put off we parked up in the mountains and went for a walk through the foggy pine forrest following a creek bank. After discovering an old stone bridge we returned to the hymermobile and continued on towards Hameln.

100_8393It was now getting late so we stopped in a motorhome parking area in the small village of Elend100_8365. Elend lies in the Bode valley in the High Harz in central Germany

This town is probably not on the motorhome touring route however the parking area was grassy and open, with shade trees and free parking and electricity. Unfortunately no Wifi internet available here at all.

We went for a late evening walk around the village which appears to be a good base for trekking in the Hartz mountains and is at the foot of mount Brocken. Which you can probably see from here when not shrouded in cloud.

There is a monument of the Division and Reunification of Germany as this was on the Inner German Border.
