We are currently near the beach at Vieux Boucau les Bains on the South West coast of France not far North of Biarritz.
We were heading South to the warmer weather and to the south coast of Spain however yesterday as we crossed the french Spanish boarder with still 1000k to go decided at the speed we like to travel it was just to far for a couple of days. So we stopped and spent the night at an small Airs at Miranda de Ebro. Had a chat to young English family at the same Airs returning from 3 months free camping in Portugal in a motorhome. They were swimming in the sea a couple of days ago and were not looking forward to returning to the UK 9 C and wet weather.
We departed Miranda de Ebro yesterday and headed East to take some smaller roads back toward France and the small Spanish town of Estella,
checked out the medieval ruins, on to Pamplona, did not see any bulls running around the streets so continued our circular route over a mountain pass through the Sierra de Cantobria (Western Pyrenees) desending into France at St Jean-Pied-de-Port.
We reached the Airs at Vieux Boucau les Bains about 8pm. We fell asleep listening to the constant roar of the Atlantic ocean.
We took a walk to the beach today through the deserted tourist area very much Ghost town like. The waves were huge and rough crashing into the deserted beach. Glad we are not on a boat crossing the Bay of Biscay today!!!
